Viridiflora Tulips

We love the Viridiflora (Latin for ‘green flower’) tulip group for their delicately feathered green on softly colored petals producing an ethereal beauty all of their own. But more importantly, that green provides some chlorophyll to the blooms themselves, producing incredibly long lasting blooms (3-4 weeks!) in the garden, and double the vase life of most cut tulips. A late-flowering tulip, these long-lasting beauties enhance bedding designs as well as cut flower arrangements

Tulipa ‘Shogun’

Tulipa cretica ‘Hilde’
A selection of Tulipa cretica, circa 1853, this dainty charmer is so very beautiful yet tough enough to withstand the rocky mountains of Crete from whence it hails. Producing up to three star-shaped flowers per rosy stem, Hilde has a whisper-pink interior with a golden-yellow heart and a pale pink exterior accented with darker purple-pink striations. Like many spring blooms, in cloudy weather and at night the blooms remain closed, but on a sunny day, the petals open wide to greet pollinators and humans alike. 6-7”

Tulipa orphanidea ‘Lizzy’
This exquisite selection of Tulipa orphanidea puts on an extravagant show despite its diminutive size. Tulipa sylvestris “The Woodland”
We are ridiculously happy to have found a source for Woodland tulips (Tulipa sylvestris), a 16th century heirloom. It’s a tall botanical tulip (12”) with arching or nodding golden yellow buds with green mid ribs opening upwards to starry blooms with pointed petals. It’s perfect for wildflower meadows or under trees in dappled light. Like all botanical tulips, they are strongly perennial and will naturalize when happy (unlike the large Dutch hybrids), coming back year after year, and each stem can produce many nodding, fragrant blooms.

Tulipa spp “Glow In the Dark”
This duo of species tulips are sweetly reminiscent of Easter eggs. Species, or botanical, tulips are the wild ancestors of our common garden tulips, and are smaller and more delicate.. Unlike their hybrid counterparts, these tulips are prized for their natural beauty, hardiness, ability to thrive in a variety of conditions, and their longevity, making them reliably perennial, and good naturalizers. 6-8”

Tulipa clusiana ‘Peppermint Stick’
Resembling candy canes, this lovely award winning bi-colour tulip can make you swoon. Sending up small, slender upright leaves and eye-catching, narrow and pointed, white flowers striped with cherry red lines on their outer petals. The blossoms close at night or on cloudy days but completely open on sunny days, forming a perfect star. Like all botanical tulips, wet, windy weather during its flowering period in mid spring will have little effect on the blooms. It naturalizes easily and will form larger colonies with each passing year. 12”
